Fresh Start Program
Course Description/Overview/Welcome Statement
The Fresh Start Program provides students with additional academic and behavioral support needed to succeed here at Timpview High School. Each student (including parents / guardians) in this program will develop an individual plan for success at the beginning of the term. These goals will be supported throughout the term as the parents / guardian and staff help to monitor student progress and needs, especially in the subjects of math and English.
Each student will meet with the teacher and parent(s) / guardian(s) to create the following at the beginning of each term.
At least two measurable behavior goals.
At least one measurable academic goal.
At least one transitional (post-secondary planning) goal.
These goals will be monitored by parent(s) / guardian(s) and staff throughout the term and revisited (by student, parent(s) / guardian(s) and staff) at the end of the term for needed adjustments.
Learning Expectations
Along with the extra support for math and English classes, each student will receive additional lessons (Strong Teens) to help increase their overall academic performance.
See Calendar for Strong Teens lesson (term) schedule
Assessment of Progress
Along with the feedback from both the math and English teachers, the Fresh Start teacher will also work with parents / guardians to assess the current state of academic performance. This will lead to a more holistic (teachers, parents and student) approach to make necessary adjustments to help each student in the program.
Criterion for Grading:
Class attendance in the FSP (Fresh Start Program) 40%
Class attendance in math class (Ms. Partridge) 15%
Class attendance in English class (Ms. Chausow) 15%
Participation in class activities 15%
Goals created and performance review 15%
Course Materials
As we work to help each student in math and English, we ask that students bring their notes and classwork/homework from the previous day. This will give each student an opportunity to have the lessons retaught / pre-taught to them.
Classroom Procedures
It is expected that each student arrive to class on time to adhere to the daily classroom agenda that will be posted on the white board each day. Classroom rules have been posted with the expectation that common courtesy and treatment of both peers and teacher be given.
