During this phased re-opening, our students have limited time in front of their teachers, which means all students are experiencing online learning. The purpose of online learning is to allow students to earn class credit while they are unable to attend school daily.

To provide clarity around how to be most successful with online learning, we are providing the following recommendations for students and parents.

Students

·      Plan time for online learning. For example, the 3 days you are not at school, work online from 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

·      Attend your Canvas courses 3X a week. Each day you are not at school, login to Canvas and check for new announcements and posted assignments.

·      Meet Canvas assignment deadlines. Do not procrastinate submitting work through Canvas. Doing school daily will prevent you from falling behind.

·      Ask your teachers for help. If you are having problems with online learning, don’t wait until you see them in class. Email your teacher right away.

·      Take advantage of our extended consultation hours. Teachers are available to work with students Monday from 12:45- 1:45 and Tuesday – Thursday from 12:45 – 3:00. You can even come back to school on the days you don’t attend class in person.

Parents

·      Allocate a quiet, distraction-free space for your children to work.

·      Create a schedule with your child about when they will complete online learning and help them stick to it.

·      Get to know the online learning platform your student is using. Ask your student to give you a tour of Canvas and login with them 1X a week to make sure they are staying up-to-date on their assignments.

·      Communicate with your student’s teachers if problems arise. Students should not feel alone in the online learning space; teachers are still an integral part of their success.

Teachers will plan to provide a clear sequence of their curriculum in their Canvas courses and coherent assignment explanations. As always, we’ve asked our faculty to monitor student submissions, update grades weekly, and respond to student/parent emails within 48 hours.
