Timpview High School

July 30th, 2020

Dear Timpview community,

Over the past five months, our community has experienced some of the most turbulent and uncertain conditions in memory. Our students, teachers, and parents deserve all the credit for balancing challenging  tensions presented by less than ideal teaching and learning conditions.

As we prepare for  the start of school, we’re optimistic about what lies ahead. We’re excited to welcome back our students. We have missed their energy and passion which are at the center of high school life. We anticipate our return to school will bring a sense of normalcy, healing,  and connection for thousands of students who have patiently endured the pandemic. We would be naïve to pretend the community health crisis is past us. The next academic year will be unprecedented due to our modified approach adopted to work in these ambiguous times. We will ask every stakeholder at THS to elevate personal stewardship and responsibility for those elements within your control. We will adhere to safety protocols and recommendations from the scientific community in order to minimize the risk we will encounter by opening our schools. If we all do our part, we will persevere and maximize opportunities for growth available to us.

Over the next few days you will receive information about our plans to return to school this fall. The guiding principles in  planning  our return to school have been safety, flexibility, and connection. To achieve these three guiding principles we have made concessions with time in school, the depth of our curriculum, and the types of activities our students will experience. Notwithstanding, we are confident in our ability to perpetuate our mission to prepare our students for college, career, and life; even within the context of Covid19.

The learning options allow students to attend school if able and willing, to take courses online, and to receive adequate support when they are not able to be physically present. Our plan also accounts for class size reductions that allow us to adhere to appropriate safety protocols in our classrooms. As the year progresses, we will work with our district leadership and health professionals to assess our current plan and make modifications as warranted. We ask for your patience and feedback as we navigate these uncharted waters.

We appreciate your support and look forward to a new year at school

All the best,

Dr. Fidel Ahumada Montero
