Timpview High School

Timpview High School’s Math Team team placed first in their national bracket of the Math Madness competition sponsored by the Mathematical Association of America (MAA). The competition is modeled after college basketball’s March Madness, with online matches that are 30 minutes in duration with 8 questions.  Ideally, teams play live against each other. The Champion Timpview Math team won all of their matches (8-0) this year.  Their opponents were mostly STEM magnet schools, gifted schools, and private schools (one had a tuition of $35000/yr !) although any school can sign up to play.  We had a “deep bench” with over 30 players although there were about 9 or 10 “varsity” players. Yay Math!!!

Our path to victory (not counting the preliminary matches that we won): 11/5 defeated (27 to 22) Pine View School, Osprey, FL.  Pine View School is a Gifted Magnet Program and ranked #1 in Florida and #15 in US (by US News). 11/12 defeated (29 to 22) Central High School, Philadelphia, PA. It has 245 students in grades 11-12 with a student-teacher ratio of 11 to 1. 12/3 defeated (21 to 14) Tenafly High School, NJ  Tenafly High School is a four-year comprehensive community public high school in Tenafly in Bergen County, New Jersey, United States, serving students in ninth through twelfth grades. 12/10 defeated (22 to 13) Deep Run High School, VA. Deep Run High School is a magnet high school in Henrico County, Virginia, United States. 12/17 defeated (35 to 28) St. Margaret’s Episcopal School, CA.  St. Margaret’s Episcopal School is a top rated, private, Christian school located in San Juan Capistrano, CA.
