Welcome to photography class. This is an introductory course that provides students an opportunity to learn digital photographic skills, techniques and processing. Due to the nature of the subject matter, and the limitations of in-class time, it is essential that students be self-motivated. Students will need to schedule their time for quality picture taking, computer work, printing and presentation. The program of study for this class is based on the State Core Standards. Students will also have the opportunity to participate In the SkillsUSA program.

2.     Learning expectations

Overarching Goals: At the conclusion of the course, each student will be able to:

·  Appreciate and apply aesthetic values in the taking and the evaluation of photographs

·  Understand the digital camera format including resolution, shutter speed and aperture control to produce finished prints that conform to accepted standards of technical and aesthetic quality

·  Explore the history of photography, copyright laws and legal issues dealing with photography

·  Research the types of employment opportunities available in the field of photography

·  Manipulate digital photo files using Adobe Photoshop

3.     Assessment of progress and achievement

This is a Career and Technical Education class. Students will have the opportunity to take the state CTE Proficiency Exam. This test is offered one time during the semester. There is no makeup for this test if the student misses the test date.

Classwork will be in the form of reading, research and photo projects, studying for the state CTE Proficiency Exam, vocabulary and chapter quizzes, and journal assignments.

This is a lab class, which means most of our work will be completed in class. Some students may feel they need additional time to complete assignments. For this reason, many assignments will be accepted up to one week late without penalty. After an assignment is more than one week late it will receive late credit.

The work you turn in must be your own, specifically created for this class. Cheating will not be tolerated. See school policy for academic integrity in the student handbook.

No work will be accepted or scored into the next term.

4.     Course materials

There is a lab fee per semester. This fee helps to cover lab expenses. Pay your fee at the cashier’s office to Ms. Wood’s photography account.

Students will be using basic point and shoot digital cameras.  NO PHONES. Students are expected to take care of all classroom equipment and will be responsible for any damages. Fines will be charged for damaged equipment.

Students will need 2-2pocket folders and a journal.

5.     classroom procedures
