Market Days for Entrepreneurship Classes
On December 18th and 19th, Mr. Johnson’s Entrepreneurship classes held their semi-annual market day event. This is the capstone project for these students. They have spent the semester learning about target markets, costs, and how to create business plans and advertise. The students then form companies and come up with a business idea. They then apply all they have learned and get to run their business and experience running it firsthand.
Close to 25 student-run businesses were in operation during the two-day event. Some of the items that students sold were Homemade cookies, Sweet Rolls, Chick-fil-A Dupe Nuggets, temporary tattoos, pancakes, cake pops, pizza, drinks, empanadas, and even a clothing thrift shop.
The students have commented that they learned so much more by doing the event. They saw how location can impact sales. They also gained experience in dealing with supply and demand as they needed help to keep up with the influx of customers.
I enjoy and look forward to this event each semester. I enjoy the buzz created around the school as teachers, students, and staff talk about the event and come to support these hard-working students. It has become part of our school “culture” and will continue to be such.
