Election Rules

Posters

  • 3 large posters (3 x 5 foot max)
  • 15 fliers (8.5 x 11 inches max)
  • Must be approved before hanging

See Keaton for stamp on March 23rd from 2:15-3:00 or during lunch in Baker’s room (U-20) THIS IS THE ONLY TIME TO GET IT DONE UNLESS YOU TEXT KEATON BEFOREHAND AND DO IT SOONER. Posters must be taken down by 2:30pm on Friday, March 30th.

You may ONLY USE MASKING TAPE OR PAINTERS TAPE (no duct tape upon request of the janitors) Only put posters in the commons area on brick surfaces. Do not put anything in the academic hallways of the school, except for flyers on the bulletin boards only. The doors by the financial office is the end of the boundary for the commons. You may hang posters on the balcony of the upper academics across from the library, but not on any of the lockers.

Removing or changing locations of other candidates posters is prohibited. If your posters fall down throughout election week, it is your responsibility to take care of them. If I find any poster falling down or on the ground, I will put them in Baker’s room, but will not notify you – it is your responsibility. Remember that none of your campaign material can be found laying around the school after 2:30pm each day, or it will result in disqualification. There is a chance that if staff or janitors get to the posters first they will discard of the poster, so keep an eye on your posters.

NO POSTERS or HANDOUTS should be found or distributed during class time. The election campaigning is to stay in the Commons. Do not visit any classrooms to campaign. Your friends cannot campaign for you during classes either.

Commercials

Only student body officers (SBO President, SBO VP, SBO Secretary, SBO Social VP) are allowed to create commercials. Email your video link to cassidyb.provo.edu This video will be mentioned on a video announcement to the whole school. If the video isn’t submitted, it will not be shown.

Videos must not exceed 1 minute for each candidate. If it is inappropriate in any way, or discriminates anyone, it will not be shown and could result in disqualification of the candidate. Videos are due on March 22nd at 3pm.

Handouts to Students

No food, candy, or stickers allowed. Only business sized handouts allowed (400 limit, no bigger than a quarter of a sheet of paper). If handouts are found around the school on the floor, the candidate must pick them up or they will not be allowed to run. Handouts must be approved by JoAnna at the same time as the posters.

Video

Each candidate has the option to produce a 1 minute video (or less) about qualifications for running and a short introduction. Videos are DUE on March 22nd at 3pm. Email them to Ms. Baker cassidyb@provo.edu. Please encode your video in one of the following formats: .mov, Google Drive video or .mp4. These videos will be posted on the school’s Facebook page, but will not be shown in video announcements.

Money

Students can only spend $20. Things that DON’T count in budget are:

  • markers
  • scissors
  • tape (no duct tape)
  • printed things from home printer on regular, white paper

Things that COUNT in your budget are:

  • Paints
  • Butcher paper/poster board
  • Printed pictures
  • Colored paper or cardstock
  • Glitter
  • Embellishments
  • Handouts
  • T-shirts
  • Tax

Be creative – there are a lot of free items around town

Receipts are due on March 28th. Failure to turn in your receipts will mean your name will not be printed on the ballot. Turn in your receipts to Keaton or Baker. If you exceed your budget or turn in your receipts, you will be disqualified. If you receive any exclusive discounts that aren’t open to the public, you must list the cost everyone else would be able to purchase the item for in your budget. If you have ANY questions, PLEASE call/text/email Keaton!

Any form of bribery or unacceptable behavior is prohibited and will result in disqualification.

Social Media

Only promote yourself. No slamming other candidates. No inappropriate material, pictures, jokes, or sayings that poorly represent yourself or Timpview High School. If there is any of this, the candidate will be immediately disqualified. This includes any comments on your posts. Dress code is enforced on your video. See student handbook for more questions.

You may use Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter. Be aware that inappropriate comments (even comments not made by you) can disqualify you. Facebook groups and Instagram accounts are allowed. Make sure your packets have been approved before starting any groups or accounts.

If you begin an account on social media, you must request to follow timpview_t_birds on Instagram. We will be strict on all social media campaigning.

During Voting

Candidates ARE NOT allowed to campaign or linger in the Auditorium wing or Auditorium during voting. Please be respectful of other candidates. Voting will be monitored.
