Introduction to Distance Learning

High School Students can take UVU college courses through Concurrent Enrollment via Live Interactive Education

Live Interactive Education (or (DE) Distance Education) is another great opportunity for Timpview students to earn college credit while in high school.  Utah Valley professors are on the UVU campus teaching in a classroom designed to transmit the class throughout the state.  The high-tech equipment enables students to communicate with the professor on campus in real-class time while attending their class at Timpview High School in room N-101.

Why take Live Interactive (DE) Classes?

  • Dual credit: Earn high school and college credit in one class
  • Convenient: classes are attended right on the high school campus
  • Reduced Tuition of only $5 per credit hour (students purchase their own Canvas materials, textbooks, eBook, and other items that may be required by the instructor)
  • Classes are taught by UVU instructors in semester-based classes (equals 1.0 high school credit per semester)
  • Classes fulfill college General Education requirements, degree prerequisites, or degree discipline
  • Get a jumpstart on college

Who should take Live Interactive (DE) Classes?

  • Junior and Senior students with 3.0 GPA, Sophomore students with 3.5 GPA or higher (English ACT requirements should also be met)
  • Students wanting a challenge through rigor
  • Self- motivated and disciplined students who understand the importance of attendance and good study skills
  • Confident students that like expressing themselves through written communication
  • Students ready to move on to college

How do I participate in Live Interactive (DE) Courses?

  • Meet with Lisa Pulver in the Media Center at Timpview for course offerings and program details
  • Select DE classes in Class Choice, then meet with Mrs. Pulver to add DE classes in your high school schedule accordingly
  • Become a UVU student through UVU Concurrent Enrollment and register for UVU courses
  • Report or submit ACT scores and/or AP (Advanced Placement) scores to UVU
  • Meet with your high school counselor to ensure credits meet high school graduation requirements

Participation requires students to block out periods for A and B high school classes. Courses follow the UVU academic schedule and calendar. UVU fall courses may begin before the start of high school classes in August, while spring UVU courses typically begin in January, often before the end of the high school’s first semester.  Visit “UVU Distance Education” section under Counseling and Registration on the Timpview website for more program information linked below:

Use the UVU LI (DE) program as a self-funded scholarship: free UVU admission and four DE courses (12 credits) a semester at the reduced tuition cost of $5 per credit hour is a tuition savings of $3,193.50
