Timpview High School

Please note the following important information regarding Graduation that has been sent to parents/guardians this evening.

Ceremony Details Date: Tuesday, May 25, 2021 Time: Ceremony starts at 4:00pm Location: Timpview Athletic Stadium

Earlier this school year, our initial plan was to move forward with a Graduation Automotive Procession similar to last school year.  When we presented this idea to our students, the feedback we received was that an overwhelming amount of our upcoming graduates preferred a Traditional Graduation Ceremony in our athletic stadium.  While we are excited to honor their request, we are, by nature, limited in some aspects including capacity limits and parking.

1. Capacity Limits – We are grateful our stadium can now be filled with spectators.  Due to the seating limits in our athletic stadium, each graduate will be given a total of four (4) guest tickets.  A guest is defined as any person that will occupy their own space/seat within our stadium regardless of age and size.

Tickets will be given to graduates on Friday, May 21 when they come to pick-up their graduation regalia at Graduation Regalia Distribution (12:00pm – 3:00pm) in the auditorium foyer.

Each guest will need their actual ticket to enter the graduation ceremony.  Pictures of and digital-version tickets will not be accepted for entry.  If graduates have any leftover tickets that are not being used, they can give unused tickets to another graduate in need.

2. Parking – Parking at Timpview High School is limited, so please arrive with enough time to find parking, walk to the stadium, and find a seat.  We recommend graduates and guests travel together in one vehicle where possible.  We strongly encourage all guests to be seated by 3:45pm.  The following areas will be available for guest parking:

North Student Parking Lot East Parking Lot Band Parking Lot Edgemont Elementary Parking Lot Timp Kiwanis Park Parking Lot (south of Timpview tennis courts) Latter-day Saint Chapel Parking Lot at 555 E 3230 N. Additional parking can be found along available streets The West Faculty Parking Lot is reserved for Timpview faculty and will not be available for guests.  Please see attached map.

Entrance to the stadium can be found at the northeast gate and southwest gate.

3. COVID Testing Requirement – We have been informed by our central office that all graduates are required to complete a COVID rapid test prior to attending graduation.  Only students who test negative will be able to attend graduation.

COVID Testing Details COVID Testing Date: Monday, May 24 (day before graduation) Time: 12:30pm – 2:30pm Location: Timpview North Gym

Graduates must be tested between 12:30pm – 2:30pm, but can choose when during that time frame to check-in.

Prior to COVID rapid testing, all graduates must be registered in our COVID database system called Redcap.  Students should go to the link below to register before COVID testing.  The COVID testing requirement applies to graduates only.  If you have questions about how to get registered or the process of COVID testing, please contact Katie Geary (catherineg@provo.edu).

4. Graduation Rehearsal – All graduates are required to attend graduation rehearsal.

Rehearsal Details Rehearsal Date: Tuesday, May 25 Time: Rehearsal starts at 9:45am Location: Timpview Athletic Stadium

When graduates arrive to the school for rehearsal, we will first meet on the stadium field.  All graduates must leave the school grounds upon the conclusion of graduation rehearsal.

5. Graduate Arrival – Graduates must be lined up in the Thunderdome West Hallway and Cafeteria/North Gym Hallway no later than 3:00pm on the day of graduation.  Graduates will need to line-up by alphabet (last name) and receive their name card at this time.  At 4:00pm, graduates will proceed out the Thunderdome Southwest doors to their seats on the field.

6. Attire and Behavior – Appropriate attire for graduates is best-dress.  Due to the formal nature of the graduation ceremony, nothing should distract from the uniformity of the cap and gown, including alterations

Please be aware heels should not be worn on our turf field. Caps should not be decorated. Prior to accepting the diploma, one flower lei around the neck is appropriate.  Additional leis, including candy and money leis, can be presented to the graduate after the ceremony. The graduation gown should be zipped up fully. Students inappropriately dressed may be turned away at the door and can pick their diploma up at the school during regular school hours.

Graduates and guests are expected to behave respectfully and appropriately throughout the duration of the ceremony.  We strongly discourage any behavior that attracts significant attention to one graduate at the expense of other graduates or the ceremony itself.  The following are prohibited from the graduation ceremony: alcohol, noise makers, air horns, confetti cannons, laser pens, and similar.  If you bring something to shade yourself with, please be aware of how that may impact ceremony visibility of those around you.

We recommend you plan an outdoor site ahead of time to meet up with your graduate after the ceremony ends.  Graduates and guests will not be allowed on the field immediately following the ceremony.

7. After-Graduation Celebration – One of the reasons we changed the graduation ceremony start time to 4:00pm was to hold an after-graduation celebration for our graduates and guests.  This is an opportunity for students to celebrate with one another and take pictures with friends and family after the ceremony while there is still daylight.  At the conclusion of the ceremony, graduates will walk back into the school at the Thunderdome Southwest doors and make their way to the Commons and Quad.  Here, students will pick up their actual diplomas (diploma covers are handed out when walked across the stage), have photo opportunities, and spend time celebrating with friends and family.

We are excited to honor our incredible Class of 2021!  Please let a school counselor know if you have any questions.
