Timpview High School

One hundred 9th grade students achieved a “higher passing rate” than their peers through participation in Timpview’s 9th grade Academy during the 2021-22 school year.

This success was largely achieved by 2 factors. First, the four teachers involved from English 9, Secondary Math 1, Earth Science, and World Geography collaborated twice a month holding student-centered discussions to address the academic and behavior challenges of their shared students.

In addition, these same teachers implemented tier 2 intervention within their classrooms to remediate students who needed extra time to master essential content standards.

An overview of the 9th Grade Academy is best depicted in the Freshmen Framework above, where the goal to achieve a 90% passing rate is in the center surrounded by the 4 components that helped teachers achieve that goal:

  1. Cross-curricular tier 1 instructions supported by AVID
  2. Tier 2 academic intervention
  3. Common policies and PD
  4. Student-centered collaboration
