Sm3 Syllabus

Course Description/Overview/Welcome Statement

Welcome to the second semester of SM3!

After consulting with colleagues and administration and much consideration, there will be some changes to policies and procedures for the second semester of SM3. Please read this disclosure statement carefully so you are aware of these changes.

Learning Expectations

Grading Policy

Grades will be determined from total points earned each term in the following categories:

·      Warm-Ups/Participation (10%)

·      Assignments (20%)

·      Assessments (Tests and Quizzes) (70%)

·      Extra Credit will be available and will count in the “Assignments” category.

Assessment of Progress

Warm-Ups/Participation

Warm-ups will be given at the start of class almost every day and cannot be made up, therefore attendance and punctuality are critical. The lowest 2 Warm-Up grades will be dropped at the end of each term.

Participation will include following the no cell-phone policy, handing in required forms and questionnaires and taking part in class activities.

Assessments

One formal assessment will be given per unit with the possibility of some quizzes. There will be no test or quiz retakes. If completed and studied, the reviews given and the assignments for each unit will help in preparation for these assessments.

Assignments

Assignments will be given almost daily and will consist of online problems from the textbook and worksheets. Late assignments will be accepted for half-credit up until the day of the test for the chapter. If you have an excused absence, you must let me know by email so that you can receive full credit. If true effort is given when an assignment is due, you have the opportunity to redo it. You must email me if you want to redo an assignment so that I can un-submit it online.

Course Materials

A scientific calculator is required for this course. A graphing calculator is optional, however
highly recommended if you are going to take College Algebra or Pre-Calculus next year. You
may purchase either one of these or rent them from the school.

Please bring a folder, notebook, textbook, calculator and at least one pen and one pencil, every
class period.

Classroom Procedures

Tardiness

You need to be in the room seated and ready to work when the bell rings or you will be considered tardy.

Electronic Devices

Electronic devices such as cell phones, I-pods, smart watches, etc. are not allowed in the classroom. Please don’t bring them to class or keep them out of sight or they will be confiscated.

Hall Passes

Hall passes will only be issued in extreme circumstances. If one is needed, you will need to sign in and out and leave any electronic devices in the classroom before you will be excused.

Exiting the Classroom

I will do my best to wrap everything up by two minutes before the bell rings. Please do not zip up backpacks until this time. Stay seated until you are excused and please note that I dismiss you, NOT the bell.

Cheating

Cheating is not acceptable. Helping each other and checking answers with classmates is encouraged, but copying homework will not be tolerated. If there is any cheating on any assignment, quiz or test, a 0 will be given and a parent or guardian will be notified.

Extensive Absences and Circumstances

If you are absent for two or more days per unit or have special circumstances, accommodations will be considered on a case by case basis.

Student Handbook

If you have any questions, please see the student handbook that is included on the Timpview High School website. Of course, you can always contact me with any questions or concerns.
