Welcome to photography class. This is a course that provides students an opportunity to learn black and white photographic skills, techniques and processing. Due to the nature of the subject matter, and the limitations of in-class time, it is essential that students be self-motivated. Students will need to schedule their time to allow for quality picture taking, film development, printing and processing. The program of study for this class Is based on the State Core Standards. Students will also have the opportunity to participate In the SkillsUSA program.

2.      Learning expectations

Overarching Goals: At the conclusion of the course. each student will be able to:

3.      Assessment of progress and achievement

This is a Career and Technical Education class. Students will have the opportunity to take the state CTE Proficiency Exam. This test is offered one time during the semester. There is no makeup for this test if the student misses the test date.

Class work will be in the form of reading, research and photo projects, studying for the state CTE Proficiency Exam, vocabulary and chapter quizzes, and journal assignments. This is a lab class, which means most of our work will be completed in class. Some students may feel they need additional time to complete assignments. For this reason, many assignments will be accepted up to one week late without penalty. After an assignment is more than one week late it will receive late credit.

The work you turn in must be your own, specifically created for this class. Cheating will not be tolerated. See school policy for academic integrity in the student handbook.

No work will be accepted or scored into the next term.

4.      Course materials

There is a lab fee per semester. This helps cover film photography classroom materials and expenses. Pay your fee at the cashier’s office to Ms. Wood’s photography account.

The class uses 35mm SLR film cameras, in which the shutter speed and aperture can be adjusted manually. Students can use their own cameras.

Each student will expose and develop approximately 6 rolls of Black and white film, color based black and white film will not work.

Students are expected to take care of all classroom equipment and will be responsible for any damages. Fines may be applied for damaged equipment.

Supplies provided by the teacher are: 6 rolls of 35mm (ISO 400) black and white film, RC coated photo paper, and 10 negative sleeves. Students will also need a journal, and 3-ring binder and 2 2-pocket folders.
