English 12 Syllabus

Course Description/Overview/Welcome Statement

Welcome to English 12! I am so excited for the learning and growth that will happen among all of us (myself included!) in the coming school year. I will work hard all year to make sure that your time in my classroom will be engaging and empowering. With that said, I expect all students to come to class prepared and ready to engage in the learning process. We will speak, write, listen, and read about a variety of topics that are extremely relevant to you as a young person on the threshold of entering the global community.

Classroom Procedures

Tardy/Attendance

Bathroom Passes/Leaving Class

You are expected to use the bathroom and take care of other errands before and after class. However, I understand that emergencies happen. You may leave for important reasons as long as you ask for permission at appropriate times and return in a timely manner.

Late Work

Electronics

Technology is a great tool that we will utilize often in the classroom. However, cell phones and other electronics (including earphones) should not be seen or heard unless they are being used for specific instructional purposes. The first infraction will result in your only warning. The second will result in the confiscation of the electronic, which will be kept in my classroom until you retrieve it at the end of the day. Refusal to hand over an electronic device will immediately result in detention and parents/guardians will be notified.

Academic Integrity

Students shall not misrepresent examination materials, writing, homework, or other assignments as their own when they are someone else’s work. If cheating occurs, an automatic zero will replace any score, we will make a phone call home, and administration will be notified. Remember that aiding a cheater is also considered cheating. We will clearly define plagiarism in class.

Calendar of Due Dates for Major Assignments

Progress Reports and Report Cards

Grades will be posted to PowerSchool. I will make sure all small assignment and quiz grades are posted by the end of the week. Large tests and essay grades will be posted within two weeks of submission.

Connecting Home to School

For reading schedules, make up assignments, and notes, please log into classroom.google.com with your student email and password. We will add my class while you are here at school so that you can access it here or at home.
