Fashion Design Studio

Course Fee: $15 paid to the financial office

Course Description: In this class you will study the world of fashion and learn how it applies to your wardrobe and personal style. To find the best style for you, we will be discussing the elements and principles of design, consumerism, fashion careers, and creation and make up of textures.

* This course counts toward a Fashion Design, Manufacturing, and Merchandising Pathway.

Please read through the following disclosure document very carefully.

You will be held accountable for all of the information below.

General Class Rules

  1. Follow directions the first time they are given.
  2. Be tidy
  3. Be in your seat when the tardy bell rings.
  4. Come to class prepared
  5. Be respectful to yourself and others
  6. NO HATS, DRINKS, OR UNHEALTHY FOOD

Consequences

  1. Verbal Warning
  2. -15% off assignment for the day
  3. -25% off assignment for the day
  4. Parent contact (referral to admin if no reply within 3 days)
  5. Referral to administration

Rewards

  1. Sticker each day when no tardies
  2. 5 Stickers = extra credit for class
  3. Ten stickers on chart = treat for class

General Procedures

  1. Class will be dismissed by the teacher when everyone seated and areas tidy. Leaving class before dismissed will lead to a Truancy on your record.
  2. If absent you are responsible to make up notes from the class website.
  3. Check with me before or after class for handouts or assignments missed.
  4. Utilize class time wisely to accomplish tasks. Turn in assignments when due.
  5. Plagiarism won’t be tolerated. You will automatically receive a “0”

Electronics

The school policies on electronics will be enforced in this class. Electronics are to be completely put away during lecture. I reserve the right to confiscate electronics. Enforcement is as follows:

  1. Verbal Warning
  2. Teacher confiscates electronics and they will be returned at the end of class
  3. If there is a chronic problem, parents will be required to pick up the device at the end of the day from my room.

Hall Passes

Each student will be given two hall passes per quarter.  Hall passes that are not used can be turned into the teacher at the end of the quarter for 10 extra credit points each (20 points possible).  Lost or used hall passes will NOT be replaced, and the student will not be allowed out of the room without one (unless the office calls you down).

5 tardies= no extra credit.

School Excused Absences

  1. If assignment is due on a day you will be gone, turn it in before absence.
  2. Assignments given in your absence due the same time as the rest of the class.
  3. Check with me before your absence for additional lectures, discussions, demonstrations, videos, etc. that need to be made up.
  4. Always remember that being excused from class for another school activity is a privilege you must earn.

Attendance and Tardy Policy

  1. You are considered tardy if you are not in your seat by the time the bell stops ringing.
  2. It is your responsibility to bring a written excuse from the teacher, counselor, or administrator who detained you by the end of the day if you expect an excused tardy.
  3. If you enter class after the bell has rung, sign the tardy sheet hanging by the door. If you fail to do so, you will remain marked as absent for that day.
  4. Unexcused Absences: Participation points will be “0” and cannot be made up. Work will be due the same day as the rest of the class and will be late if turned in after class due date.
  5. If you are more than 10 minutes late you have to come to class with a note. If you don’t’, you will be sent back to the office to check-in and get one. A “3” will be in your attendance record.
  6. If you are more than 30 minutes late, you must have a note and you will remain marked as absent for the period.

PLEASE MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO BE TO CLASS ON TIME AND EXCUSE ALL ABSENCES!!!

Grading Policy

  1. You will be given the number of days you were absent (excused) to make up the work for full credit. Late work will receive a 25% penalty and won’t be accepted after a week.
  2. You will be expected to keep all of your assignments and handouts.
  3. Grades will be given according to work done during class time and homework done throughout the whole term. Do not expect to make one giant effort at the end of the term and be able to earn all of the required points to get an “A.”
  4. Parents will be responsible for signing the disclosure document, midterm and final reports. They will also be responsible for providing necessary supplies and communicating with the teacher in case of financial difficulty.
  5. Indicators of Learning will include: Classroom participation, proper use of equipment and vocabulary, and successful completion of the State Performance Objectives
  6. The grading scale (according to percentage of total point) is as follows:

95-100        A                80-83          B-               67-69          D+

90-94          A-               77-79          C+              64-66          D

87-89          B+              74-76          C                60-63          D-

84-86          B                70-73          C-               Below 60     F

  1. Weighted Grades Participation 10%, Homework 50%, and Tests 40%
  2. There are limited opportunities for extra credit. If you want extra credit you will need to listen carefully for opportunities.

Classroom Videos:

Several short movie clips are used from videos to recognize design principles and careers in the industry. Please contact me if you have any questions regarding the content of these productions.

FCCLA:  Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America is a national student organization for all Family and Consumer Science students.  This program involves students in activities and service projects that promote home and family.  Membership is strongly encouraged. Membership fees are $15.00.

 

STAR Events: Advocacy, Chapter Service Project Display, Chapter Service Project Portfolio, Career Investigation, Entrepreneurship, Illustrated Talk, Job Interview, Recycle and Redesign, Fashion Construction, Fashion Design, National Programs.

Skill Demonstration Events: Fashion Sketch, Science in FACS, Consumer Math.

National Program: Career Connection, Power of One, Financial Fitness.
