Special Education

Literacy A (LA)

  • Full Year, Grades 9 – 12
  • Prerequisite: Individualized Education Plan (IEP)

This course is designed to provide specialized instruction to students who are currently served with an I.E.P. This class is designed to help students who are at a basic reading level and have goals that align with the DLM (Dynamic Learning Maps). Skills will be taught based on individual I.E.P. goals.

Literacy B (EL)

  • Full Year, Grades 9 – 12
  • Prerequisite: Individualized Education Plan (IEP)

This course is designed to provide specialized instruction to students who are currently served with an I.E.P. The course is designed to work on reading skills including basic reading, reading comprehension and fluency. Students in this course work on I.E.P goals to assist them in accessing the core curriculum.

Math A (M, ME)

  • Full Year, Grades 9 – 12
  • Prerequisite: Individualized Education Plan (IEP)

Students will be taught how to work with fractions, decimals and percent. They will work with geometric shapes and formulas. Metric and standard measurement systems will also be taught. Students will be expected to apply these concepts as they would confront them in everyday scenarios. Mastery of these concepts will prepare them for Math B.

Math B (M, ME)

  • Full Year, Grades 9 – 12
  • Prerequisite: Individualized Education Plan (IEP)

Students will expand their understanding of number relationships to include irrational numbers. The focus will be on proficiency in recognizing and working effectively with linear relationships and their corresponding representations in tables, graphs, and equations; this includes competence in solving linear equations, converting real scenarios into expressions and equations, using formulas, and applying proportionality. Students will use area, volume, and geometric relationships to solve a problem. Teaching will focus on the understanding of concepts in depth, enabling student to apply mathematical skills and make meaningful connections to life experiences and well and prepare them for Secondary Math I.

Learning Strategies Literacy (EL)

  • Full Year, Grades 9 – 12
  • Prerequisite: Individualized Education Plan (IEP)

This course is designed to provide specialized instruction to students who are currently served with an I.E.P. This course is designed to support students that are enrolled in a general education Language Arts class. Re-teaching of the English concepts taught in the general education class, with an emphasis on reading and writing IEP goals will be the foundation of this class.

Learning Strategies-math 1 (EL)

  • Full Year, Grades 9 – 12
  • Prerequisite: Individualized Education Plan (IEP)

This course is designed to provide specialized instruction to students who are currently served with an I.E.P. This course is designed to support students that are enrolled in a Secondary Math 1 class. Reteaching of the math concepts taught in the general education class, with an emphasis on math IEP goals will be the foundation of this class.

Learning Strategies-math 2 (EL)

  • Full Year, Grades 9 – 12
  • Prerequisite: Individualized Education Plan (IEP)

This course is designed to provide specialized instruction to students who are currently served with an I.E.P. This course is designed to support students that are enrolled in a Secondary Math 2 class. Reteaching of the math concepts taught in the general education class, with an emphasis on math IEP goals will be the foundation of this class.

Daily Living Skills (EL)

  • Full Year, Grades 9 – 12
  • Prerequisite: Individualized Education Plan (IEP)

This course is available to students who have severe/profound cognitive disabilities and qualify for special education services. The course curriculum will be comprised of various skills (including pre-primer/primer reading, simple writing activities and basic math skills such as adding and subtracting within 10) and be dictated by each student’s Individualized Education Program (I.E.P.).

Directed Studies (EL)

  • Semester or Full Year, Grades 9 – 12
  • Prerequisite: Individualized Education Plan (IEP)

This class is intended to facilitate credit recovery, behavior management, time management, test-taking, homework support and academic tracking.

Transition (EL)

  • Full Year, Grades 9 – 12
  • Prerequisite: Individualized Education Plan (IEP)

Specialized instruction to facilitate student achievement to post-secondary goals including post-secondary education, training, employment, independent living and community access.

EE English (E)

  • Full Year, Grades 9 – 12
  • Prerequisite: Individualized Education Plan (IEP)

This course provides specialized instruction to facilitate student achievement in literacy skills.

EE Math (M)

  • Full Year, Grades 9 – 12
  • Prerequisite: Individualized Education Plan (IEP)

This course provides specialized instruction to facilitate student achievement in math skills.

EE Science (PS, BS)

  • Full Year, Grades 9 – 12
  • Prerequisite: Individualized Education Plan (IEP)

This course provides specialized instruction to facilitate student achievement in science skills.

EE All (EL)

  • Full Year, Grades 9 – 12
  • Prerequisite: Individualized Education Plan (IEP)

Students receive instruction on Essential Elements for literacy, math and science.c, and professional topics.
